This exhibition illuminates humanity and humanity from personal, cultural, technological, regional and political perspectives, and explores a new humanism for our times. The works come in a variety of media, including photography, painting, video art, interactive art, sculpture, and installation art.

The curators introduction:
Photographer Sven Pfrommer has made the act of observing people in motion a central focus of his artistic work. With his long-running series HUMAN BLUR, he explores urban spaces where he, as the photographer, remains the only static element—watching as crowds flow past in a stream of kinetic energy.

These fleeting moments, charged with human energy, are captured through motion blur—transforming bustling individuals into abstract forms. People move through streets, stations, and public events seemingly without purpose, unaware of the silent observer in their midst. Though movement cannot be stopped, it can be recorded—distilled into images that offer only a hint of identity.

Pfrommer’s color-saturated, blurred compositions render figures anonymous. Contours dissolve; personalities disappear. What remains are silhouettes—reduced to form, light, and color. This deliberate abstraction dematerializes the individual, turning them into graphic elements shaped by overlapping layers and shifting shadows.

Since 2002, Pfrommer has continuously developed the HUMAN BLUR series, receiving international recognition for his distinctive visual language. His work examines the tension between presence and absence, permanence and transience—inviting viewers to reflect on the fleeting nature of human existence in contemporary urban life.

I’m delighted to be taking part in #TheOtherAvatars a new NFT project launching this month with SaatchiArt. 154 artists have been selected from around the world to create avatars inspired by Vincent Van Gogh. Dropping in January 2022, The Other Avatars is the first of its kind and a project that only Saatchi Art could make a reality: a series of handmade, originally-designed, and stylistically-varied avatars created by an international collective of hundreds of artists selected by our curators. For the project, each participating artist will create 10 to 20 unique avatars inspired by the self-portraits of renowned Dutch artist Vincent van Gogh. While today Van Gogh is considered one of the most influential figures in Western art history, during his lifetime he saw relatively little commercial success. His story is emblematic of so many artists and creative thinkers whose visionary approaches—while under appreciated in the moment—turn out to be ahead of their time. The NFT landscape occupies a similar position: while many think NFTs are a passing fad to be ignored, others—including the team at Saatchi Art—believe they will play a major role in the future of art.

My new cyanotype series on 300 gsm Zerkall paper. Each work comes behind glass framed with a 2.5 cm white wooden frame, ready to hang and each is limited to 10 expl. with a signed certificate.

Paper size: 40 x 40 cm
Framed size: 43 × 43 × 3 cm

WHAT IS A CYANOTYPE?
Cyanotype is a 170-year-old photographic printing process that produces prints in distinctive blue tones. The word cyan comes from the Greek, meaning “dark blue substance.” The process was invented by Sir John Herschel. The cyanotypes are made by coating handmade paper with a light-sensitive emulsion. It then gets exposed it in UV light for several minutes using a film to get the best image quality. Finally, the print gets washed and fixed with water. If done well, the result is an image with blue tones in gorgeous, subtle variations.
