The Triennial of Photography Hamburg once again transformed the city into one of Europe’s leading destinations for contemporary photography. During my recent visit, I explored several of the festival’s major exhibitions, each demonstrating the remarkable breadth of photographic practice—from historical archives to experimental contemporary works.

One of the highlights was the exhibition dedicated to F. C. Gundlach at the Bucerius Kunst Forum. As one of Germany’s most influential fashion and portrait photographers, Gundlach’s work reflects both elegance and innovation. The exhibition traced his career through iconic images, revealing his lasting impact on fashion photography and his role in shaping the visual culture of post-war Germany. His ability to combine technical precision with narrative composition remains deeply inspiring.

The visit continued at the Deichtorhallen Hamburg, where F. C. Gundlach’s legacy extends beyond his own work. As the founder of the House of Photography, his vision helped establish Deichtorhallen as one of Europe’s foremost institutions for photographic art. The exhibitions on display reflected this commitment, presenting a rich dialogue between historical and contemporary photography while embracing installation, conceptual practice, and new visual languages.

Another inspiring stop was the Hamburger Kunsthalle, where photography is presented in conversation with painting, sculpture, and graphic arts. This interdisciplinary approach reinforces the medium’s place within the broader history of visual culture.

As an visual artist, I found the Triennial especially rewarding. The exhibitions highlighted how contemporary photography continues to move beyond documentation, embracing abstraction, material experimentation, and emotional storytelling. It was an inspiring reminder of photography’s evolving possibilities and of Hamburg’s important role as an international centre for photographic culture.

NINE OCEANS began as an experimental cyanotype created by using water as both subject and creative medium. The organic textures and deep blue tones of the cyanotype were later combined with my ocean photographs, resulting in a layered mixed-media work that expands traditional photographic processes.

Through an abstract visual language, the work explores the sea not as a specific location, but as a universal space of memory, stillness, and contemplation.

I’m grateful to the Artfinder curatorial team for featuring NINE OCEANS and for introducing the work to collectors and art enthusiasts around the world.

I’m honored to share that my work and artistic practice have recently been featured in the Italian publication GP Magazine in the article “Esplorazione visuale di un fotopittore.”

The feature explores my approach to photography as a medium that moves beyond documentation toward atmosphere, abstraction, and emotional perception. The interview highlights my ongoing interest in combining photographic imagery with painterly processes, layering movement, blur, texture, and spatial rhythm to create works that exist between photography and contemporary painting.

It is always meaningful to see the ideas behind the work discussed in an international cultural context. The article reflects on themes central to my practice: perception, memory, urban transformation, and the tension between clarity and dissolution. It also touches on my multidisciplinary background and long-term engagement with photography, printmaking, and visual experimentation.

I’m grateful to GP Magazine and the editorial team of Marisa Lacopino for the thoughtful feature and for presenting my work to a wider Italian audience.

The new Conrad Hamburg has recently opened its doors, redefining contemporary luxury in the heart of the city. As part of its curated art program, my work Human Order VII has been commissioned for the Lounge on the 7th floor — a space designed for reflection and conversation.

Measuring 200 x 100 cm, Human Order VII occupies the wall with a assertive presence. The work is part of my ongoing exploration of urban movement, structure, and collective presence. The work reflects on the subtle systems that shape contemporary city life—how individuals move within architectural grids, how order emerges from apparent chaos, and how rhythm defines metropolitan experience.

Through layered photographic elements and a carefully balanced composition, the piece oscillates between abstraction and figuration, inviting viewers to look closer and discover shifting perspectives.Blurred figures intersect within an architectural framework, suggesting both autonomy and choreography — a visual metaphor for the invisible patterns that shape urban life.

Produced as a museum-quality face-mount, the photograph is sealed behind acrylic glass and mounted on aludibond with a precision wooden frame. This presentation intensifies depth, contrast, and luminosity, allowing the layered motion within the image to unfold with clarity and spatial resonance. The reflective surface subtly interacts with the surrounding light of the Lounge, integrating the artwork into the atmosphere of the space.

This commission marks an exciting collaboration between contemporary art and hospitality design—an opportunity to integrate conceptual photography into a space defined by elegance, comfort, and international exchange. I’m honored that Human Order VII now forms part of the Conrad Hamburg’s visual identity.

Five works from my HUMAN BLUR Series are currently on show at the CICA Museum, South Korea. The photographic works are part of the group exhibition “HUMANTIY”.

This exhibition illuminates humanity and humanity from personal, cultural, technological, regional and political perspectives, and explores a new humanism for our times. The works come in a variety of media, including photography, painting, video art, interactive art, sculpture, and installation art.

The curators introduction:
Photographer Sven Pfrommer has made the act of observing people in motion a central focus of his artistic work. With his long-running series HUMAN BLUR, he explores urban spaces where he, as the photographer, remains the only static element—watching as crowds flow past in a stream of kinetic energy.

These fleeting moments, charged with human energy, are captured through motion blur—transforming bustling individuals into abstract forms. People move through streets, stations, and public events seemingly without purpose, unaware of the silent observer in their midst. Though movement cannot be stopped, it can be recorded—distilled into images that offer only a hint of identity.

Pfrommer’s color-saturated, blurred compositions render figures anonymous. Contours dissolve; personalities disappear. What remains are silhouettes—reduced to form, light, and color. This deliberate abstraction dematerializes the individual, turning them into graphic elements shaped by overlapping layers and shifting shadows.

Since 2002, Pfrommer has continuously developed the HUMAN BLUR series, receiving international recognition for his distinctive visual language. His work examines the tension between presence and absence, permanence and transience—inviting viewers to reflect on the fleeting nature of human existence in contemporary urban life.

My work Fluid Horizon L has been selected for the Octavius Suites at Caesars Palace in Las Vegas, located in the contemporary Octavius Tower. This placement highlights a meaningful intersection between fine art photography and luxury hospitality design, and I’m glad to have my work become part of such an iconic and world-renowned destination.

The Fluid Horizon series—created in 2022—explores abstract seascapes through an experimental photographic process. By shooting through found pieces of glass, I distort the traditional horizon line and create shifting bands of color, movement, and atmosphere. These images evoke a sense of calm and fluidity, offering viewers a meditative visual experience that contrasts beautifully with the vibrant energy of Las Vegas.

The curatorial team of the project selected this work for its ability to create tranquility within high-end interior spaces, enhancing the refined environment of the Octavius Suites. These suites are known for their modern elegance, premium design, and focus on offering guests an exceptional, immersive stay. The inclusion of contemporary art plays a key role in shaping this experience—transforming rooms into curated environments that blend comfort, sophistication, and visual impact.

Five works from my Rainy Days series have been curated for a New York City office space bringing the atmosphere of rain into the heart of NYC

Five works from my Rainy Days series have been curated for a New York City office space, bringing the atmosphere of urban rain into the heart of Manhattan.

My series captures the poetry of rainy streets—reflections, silhouettes, blurred motion, and the quiet intensity that transforms a city’s rhythm. To see these pieces selected for a NYC interior project is especially meaningful, as New York has been one of the inspirations behind the series.

The curated works add a contemplative, cinematic mood to the office environment, offering moments of calm within the city’s constant movement. It’s always inspiring to see how art becomes part of a living space and shapes the experience of the people who encounter it daily.

All works come as face-mount: a lambda print behind clear acrylic glass 2mm, with polished edges, with alu-dibond as back and aluminum hanging profile.

Huge thanks to the curators and the Boston team for choosing my work.

My Fluid Horizon Artworks Selected for an Azimut 88 Yacht Interior

I’m excited to announce that two works from my Fluid Horizon series have been selected for the interior of an Azimut 88 yacht, a project that beautifully aligns contemporary art with luxury yacht design. This collaboration brings my abstract seascape photography into an environment defined by elegance, craftsmanship, and a deep connection to the ocean—making it a perfect match for the visual language of this series.

Fluid Horizon is a body of work created in 2022, developed through experimental photography using found glass fragments to reshape the traditional view of seascapes. The resulting images dissolve the line between sky and water, creating fluid, dreamlike horizons that feel both familiar and otherworldly. Each piece captures movement, light, and atmosphere in a way that mirrors the experience of being on open water.

The decision to integrate these works into the Azimut 88 interior highlights a growing appreciation for fine art photography in luxury spaces, particularly within modern yacht interiors where calm, immersive visuals enhance the overall aesthetic and onboard experience. These artworks were chosen for their ability to create a sense of serenity, space, and refined abstraction—qualities that resonate strongly in high-end maritime environments.

I’m grateful to the interior design team and the client for recognizing how contemporary seascape art can transform a space and elevate the emotional tone of a yacht. Collaborations like this encourage meaningful dialogue between art, architecture, and design, and I’m honored to see my work traveling on the water in such a unique way.

My Statement about my series from the exhibition:

This early photo-etching series, hand-printed in 1997 at the BKK Druckwerkstatt in Berlin, marks a formative step in my artistic development. Working directly with copper plates and traditional intaglio techniques, I explored how photographic imagery could be transformed through tactile processes—scratches, aquatint textures, and the pressure of the press. Each print carries the physical trace of the studio: ink embedded in paper fibers, controlled imperfections, and subtle tonal shifts that push the photographs toward abstraction. These works reflect my long-standing interest in merging photography with printmaking and in expanding the image beyond its mechanical origins into a more material, crafted presence.

The exhibition connects continents through foundational art elements.

The “Line and Shape” show at the A Gallery space is open in October and November 2025, featuring a compelling collection of works from four talented artists from Europe and Asia. This exhibition aimed to connect continents by highlighting foundational, basic artistic elements to express unique narratives rather than relying heavily on complex subjects. The exhibition explores the power of these most basic artistic elements to express unique stories and forge a profound emotional connection with audiences.

While all art utilizes line and shape in some capacity, this exhibition focuses on them as the primary subjects. The featured artists investigate the relationships of these elements to create compositions that guide perception, define form, and shape movement, demonstrating that a simple mark can hold complex meaning.
